Stories

Calling all Asians Between Cultures from around the globe! This can be anything from a memory, an experience, or a feeling that you want to share, speaking of challenges or celebration in a part of your life. The stories we share are kept anonymous and you have the option of featuring a visual alongside your story if you’d like.

Check out the stories we’ve already shared here.

  1. Write your story (maximum of 250 words).

  2. Provide an optional high quality portrait image of yourself (1080px by 1080px preferable). See our Stories for an example of what this should look like - it does not need to be black and white.

  3. Submit these two items to stories@theabcissue.com.

  4. Fill out the contributor agreement here.

If you are from Australia or New Zealand and would like your story to be included in our next monthly issue, please send through your items by the last day of this month.

If you are from the US, Canada, UK, or any other country from around the world, please send through your items by 20 January 2019.

Tips for writing a great story:

There is no right or wrong.
It is completely up to you how you would like to write your story and what tone you’d like to use. It can be written about any experience you have had or in any context - personal, social or professional. (If you are interested in submitting a creative writing piece such as a poem, please pitch your idea to Features.)

Keep it to theme.
We want you to share your unique experience of life as an Asian individual in a western society. Questions you may ask yourself while writing could be:
“How does this experience shape my cultural identity as an Asian Between Cultures?”
“What values have influenced this experience?”
”Why did I feel the way I did through this memory?”

Be organic and have fun!
Use your story to show who you are, whether you slip in a bit of humour or pepper it with puns. We want you to enjoy sharing your experience and be proud of it!
